Whether you’re having a wedding or a sweet 16 party, a snowball dance is a fun way to fill the dance floor. What is a snowball dance, you ask? The idea is simple but there are a few different ways you can go about it, depending on the circumstances.
Snowball Dance at a Wedding
A snowball dance at a wedding could start with the bride and groom alone on the dance floor. A good time to do this is immediately after the first dance. The DJ will announce how the dance works, explaining it to the crowd. Whenever the DJ says “snowball,” the people on the dance floor will grab someone sitting and bring them to the dance floor to join the dancing.
It doesn’t have to be the bride and groom that starts it either. The bridesmaids could start it instead. All that really matters is that people are grabbing others who are not dancing and inviting them to the dance floor. Sometimes people just need a little push. If that’s what your wedding guests need, this is a fun way to do it.
Another great aspect of this dance is it gets people dancing together who would never had danced together otherwise. You may even end up hooking someone up with their future bride or groom. You never know.
Snowball Dance at a Sweet 16 Party
Sometimes kids are reluctant to dance at sweet 16 parties, especially during the beginning of the party. It often takes them time to warm up and get comfortable enough to dance. Once they see others dancing, they’re more willing to dance. It’s a catch 22 though. If no one is dancing, no one in the crowd wants to be the first. Doing a snowball dance at a sweet 16 party is a fun way to break the ice.
Having the birthday girl start the snowball dance is a good idea. If she has a boyfriend she could dance with him first, alone. The DJ could play a slow song personally selected by the birthday girl, then cut off the music and say “snowball” as he’s throwing in a new upbeat song. If she’s more on the shy side she could start off with a few friends. Or if there are a lot of adults, maybe she could start off with her Mom and the Mom could get the other adults dancing too.
