The bouquet toss is a traditional part of weddings. In the past, the bride would often toss the bouquet outside of the church or after the ceremony. Nowadays the bouquet is usually tossed during the reception, typically towards the end of the night. As one of the last formal events during a wedding, the bouquet toss signals the end is near.
But what if you don’t want to toss your bouquet? Maybe you spent a lot of money on it and don’t want it to get damaged. Maybe you’re planning on preserving it. For whatever reason, if you decide you do not want to toss your bouquet at your wedding, we have a few alternatives for you.
A Fun Alternative To The Bouquet Toss
A fun alternative to the traditional bouquet toss goes like this: The bride stands in the middle of the dance floor blindfolded. The single ladies form a circle around her. The bride spins in one direction and the bridesmaids rotate in the opposite direction. When the DJ stops the music, everyone stops. Whichever bridesmaid the bride is facing is the lucky lady who receives the bouquet!
A Sentimental Alternative To The Bouquet Toss
Another option is to simply give the bouquet to someone special. Maybe the bride’s dearest friend recently got engaged, or really wishes she was engaged. The bride could give it to her grandmother, or someone else that’s special. This works well if there aren’t a lot of single ladies at the wedding too.
A Simple Solution
A simple solution is to buy an artificial bouquet exclusively for the bouquet toss. Or, if one of your bridesmaids don’t mind you messing up their bouquet, you may want to use theirs instead.
Whether you buy an artificial bouquet for the bouquet toss or you use one of your bridesmaids’, consider taking the photo opportunity with your real bouquet as you pretend to throw it to your single ladies.
The downside of this route is it’s not as genuine. Pretending to throw your own bouquet for a photo and then throwing a cheap one or someone else’s isn’t ideal, but if want to do a bouquet toss without damaging your bouquet it’s a great way to do so!
