Weddings are one of the most important days in a person’s life. Since you don’t get a second chance to redo a wedding, there’s very little room for mistakes. Nearly every bride surveyed admitted to making the same mistake! There’s no sense in making the same mistake many other wedding couples have made in the past. Why not learn from other people’s mistakes? Do you want to avoid making this common wedding mistake?
The Biggest Wedding Mistake
The #1 mistake wedding couples make is not placing their wedding entertainment as their #1 priority. That’s a shocking statement! I know I sound biased, but honestly the biggest mistake I see wedding couple make is not hiring a videographer. However, I’m not basing that statement on my own professional experience. I’m basing it on several reputable surveys in the wedding industry, yet most wedding couples are still unaware of these statistics!
The following statistics were published in the St. Louis Bride And Groom Magazine:
- 72% of all brides say they would have spent more time choosing their reception entertainment
- Almost 100% say they would have spent more of their budget on the entertainment
- 81% of surveyed wedding guests said they remember the entertainment the most (wedding DJ and/or band)
- Within one week after their reception, 78% of Brides say they would have made the entertainment their highest priority!
- 65% of all couples that chose a band as their wedding entertainment said they should have chosen a DJ.
* Sources cited include: Simmons; USA Today, National Bridal Service, The Knot, Brides Magazine.
During wedding planning, brides say their highest priority is their wedding dress, attire, followed by the reception venue and catering company. Wedding entertainment is among the least of their priorities!
Why Are Wedding DJs So Undervalued?
Most wedding couples have never organized a wedding before. It’s their first time! Therefore, they don’t know what they don’t know. They don’t realize how much goes into planning a wedding, or how big of a role the wedding DJ plays. Far too many people still see the DJ as “the music.” A professional wedding DJ is much more than a glorified jukebox. A wedding DJ essentially plays 3 major roles:
- Wedding Planner
- DJ
- Emcee (MC)
Basically, there’s a lot more that goes into DJing a wedding than just playing music. The DJ plays a very large role in the success of your wedding. The DJ will orchestrate the events, and make announcements when necessary so that all of your guests know what’s going on and what to do during those special moments.
